FINES AND FEES FOR DUI CONVICTIONS IN SANTA MONICA, MALIBU, SANTA BARBARA, AND VENTURA COUNTY INCLUDING SIMI VALLEY AND THOUSAND OAKS
For pretty much any Santa Monica, Malibu, Ventura or Santa Barbara DUI, if you plead guilty or get convicted you will be required to pay a significant amount in fines and fees. These will include:
- Fines for your DUI,
- Court costs,
- A tow/impound fee, and
- A fee for the mandatory Drinking Driver Program (alcohol school)
Even for first-time DUI cases, these add up to well over \$3,000, and the fines increase for second and third DUIs that involve accidents resulting in serious personal injury. In addition, for any second or third DUI, or any DUI involving an extremely high BAC level, you may also be required to pay to have ignition interlock devices installed on each of your vehicles. This typically costs about $800 per vehicle.
FINES FOR SANTA MONICA, MALIBU, VENTURA AND SANTA BARBARA DUI CONVICTIONS
The fine for a first-time DUI in Santa Barbara, Santa Monica, Simi Valley, Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, Oxnard or Camarillo ranges from $390 to $1,000. The fines are generally the same for second and third offenses within ten years, except that the fine can increase to as much as $5,000 if your DUI involved an accident that caused a serious injury, and $10,000 in cases involving death. For a third or subsequent DUI that involves an accident and injury, the minimum fine also increases, to $1,015. OPTIONS FOR EXTENDING PAYMENT DEADLINES AND REDUCING DUI FINES AND FEES
If you cannot afford to pay your Ventura or Santa Barbara DUI fines all at once, you can request to be placed on a payment plan. This will allow you to pay off your financial penalties in installments over time.
If you simply cannot afford to pay your DUI fines and fees, you also have the option to serve additional jail time to eliminate some of your financial penalties. However, it is not possible to get all of your DUI fines and fees waived through serving additional time. Serving extra jail time can satisfy about $2,000 of your fines and fees, leaving you with a balance of about $1,000 for a standard first-time DUI. Depending on how crowded the jail is when you do your time, it is possible to do this serving only about five extra days.
